J-14 has the inside scoop straight from the 2009 mtvU Woodie Awards!

Hey J-14ers,

I was lucky enough to not just watch the 2009 mtvU Woodie Awards being taped last night at NYC's Roseland Ballroom, but I got to head out on to the red carpet too! I talked to all the celebs about who they were excited to see at the awards show and, of course, talk about New Moon!

Sparks the Rescue's single is called "We Love Like Vampires," so I had to ask if they were Team Edward or Jacob. "Team Bella!" guitarist Toby McAllister told J-14. But Zooey Deschanel -- her hubby happens to be Death Cab For Cutie's lead singer Ben Gibbard -- told me she hasn't seen the movies! "I just haven't gotten to it, but I'm open to it," Zooey told J-14. "I love the soundtrack!"

Never Shout Never's Christopher Drew -- one of the night's big winners who told me, "I wish I was a vampire!" -- was psyched to see Death Cab perform, while singer Kenna loves Alicia Keys. In fact, he wanted her to win the Good Woodie award for charity work -- over himself! But would he pull a Kanye West if Alicia didn't win? "Yes," he told me. "I'll take the award from whoever - like if I win it, I'll take it from myself. Is [Taylor Swift] here? I want to give her a hug."

He wasn't the only one -- the Kanye incident was mentioned by rapper Asher Roth when he presented an award. But the biggest surprises of the night? Matt & Kim's back-up dancers stripping down during the band's opening number (they still had some clothes on -- don't worry!), 3OH!3 dressed up in two of Lady Gaga's craziest outfits, and Gossip Girl's Leighton Meester presented with the legendary Cydni Lauper!

My fave parts of the night overall were just watching Death Cab perform their hit off the Twilight soundtrack, "Meet Me On The Equinox," and one of my all-time fave songs of theirs, "The Sound of Settling." P.O.S. rapping through the crowd was pretty cool too, as was mega rock band The Dead Weather performing three songs to close out the night -- after all, they're an awesome group who hardly ever take the stage!

You can check out all the madness when the 2009 mtvU Woodie Awards when it premieres on Friday, December 4 at 10 p.m. ET/PT.

There were tons of up-and-coming bands and indie groups there that I think you guys would love. So tell me -- what new bands are you interested in hearing about? Do you guys like finding out about new music?

<3,
Emily, J-14 editor

Exclusive Q&A with Fall Out Boy's Pete Wentz

FallOutBoyGreatestHits.jpg

Fall Out Boy are taking a little break -- don't worry, they'll be back! -- but in the meantime, they realized a greatest hits album this week called Believers Never Die. J-14 talked to bassist Pete Wentz all about the album, Taylor Swift, and what Pete really thinks about his new haircut.

J-14: What is the new single off Believers Never Die - Greatest Hits called "Alpha Dog" all about?
Pete Went:
I hate explaining lyrics, but one of the things that I've loved about Bob Dylan is that he never really explains it and that way you can have the song mean anything you want to you. But at the same time, "Alpha Mega" is a biblical term that means beginning and the end in an Alpha Dog and a Megalomaniac, or two similar dispositions -- something about opening the curtain and then walking off into the sunset.

J-14: Why was this was the right time for a greatest hits album?
Pete:
We decided we were going to take a break for a little bit. We've been doing record, promo, tour, tour, pre-recording, record, promo, tour, tour for like eight years, and we're like, 'We're going to take a break and we're not going to put terms on the break as far as dates go.' We're not disillusioned in that we have a greatest hits the same way that Bob Marley would or the Eagles would but at the same time, it gives us the chance give a thank you to the fans. There's secret messages in the artwork and there's two new songs on it. "Alpha Dog" was a song that we demoed half of and put on a mixtape earlier on the internet earlier this year. Fans seemed to kind of react to that, so we decided that we wanted to write and record full versions of it.

J-14: You said Fall Out Boy was going on an "indefinite hiatus" -- what does that mean the band?
Pete:
We haven't said an indefinite hiatus -- I don't know really where that came from. We're just taking a break and decompressing. We're not putting terms on when we're coming back. We're going to come back when everybody's excited about it and it's fun. I think if we kept going at the pace we were going at, there was a definite implosion that would have happened -- this allows breathing room and us to be creative again.

J-14: A lot of your lyrics are very deep and personal -- what is it like to hear Patrick Stump singing the words you wrote?
Pete:
They make more sense to me. It's like I find the anthropological site and then he's the one who identifies the dinosaur -- he puts the pieces together. It's more therapeutic to me to watch somebody else do that and sing them. He also has the voice of a cute little angel.

J-14: What was it like to do the Band Hero commercial with Taylor Swift, who called you one of her heroes?
Pete:
Did she? I keep hearing this from people and it blows my mind. Oh wow. It was kind of cool! I only saw the commercial once to be honest because I've been out of the country for the past twelve or thirteen days. I admire her as a person in her genre because of her songwriting abilities -- I think a lot of people don't write their own songs. She's a very honest, genuine person. She came by the shoot when we were shooting when she didn't really need to -- I think to see how slick the floor was -- but she was rad.

J-14: How do you feel about your haircut being a big deal to people?
Pete:
I know. What is the deal? It made national news. We're talking about the healthcare reform and then there's Pete's hair. It's only hair. It will grow back. It felt like it was made out of Legos, like I could just take it off and put it on someone else. The swoosh had to go. I was a little bit nervous about the shape of my head at the time. [Now] I feel more aerodynamic.

Taylor Swift Does Twilight on SNL

Taylor Swift rocked SNL last night -- singing about every issue in her life from her phone breakup with Joe Jonas to the rumors about her dating Taylor Lautner (she sang "no comment, but blew him a kiss and a wink -- ha!) and even Kanye West's infamous VMA interruption.

One of the highlights was definitely the digital short parody of the Twilight trailer, called Firelight. Check out T-Swizzle as Bella Swan (kinda) above.

Exclusive Q&A with A Rocket To The Moon!

ARocketToTheMoonReadingJ14.jpg

A Rocket To The Moon just dropped their debut album, On Your Side! We were excited to hear the new record, so the ARTTM boys -- lead singer and guitarist Nick Santino, guitarist Justin Richards, bassist Eric Halvorsen, and drummer Andrew Cook -- stopped by J-14's offices to talk to us about their fave songs, crazy fans, and their love for Taylor Swift!

J-14: Where did the name "A Rocket To The Moon" come from?
Nick Santino:
I started it as a solo thing a couple of years ago, and when I thought of a name, I wasn't really thinking of anything crazy behind it. [The name] sort of popped in my head. I don't know if I read something and it jumped out at me -- tt was just something that I put down and it stuck.

J-14: What's your favorite track off your new album, On Your Side?
Nick:
Mine would be "Like We Used To." It has a slower melody and is kind of a break up song, but it has a happy ending. I think it's a cute song.
Andrew Cook: My favorite is "On A Lonely Night." I love the vibe of the song. Every time I hear it, it's like listening to it for the first time. I really like how Caitlin's vocals kind of blend in to the song too, and it has a cool touch to it -- a sort of poppy country-ness to it. It makes me happy.

J-14: How did the "Annabelle" vs. "Dakota" storyline come about?
Nick:
Annabelle is like a pain kind of girlfriend that's really annoying, and Dakota is like the cute love. So I guess it seems like the love songs can be written about this character Dakota and all the hate, mean songs can be about Annabelle.
Eric Halvorsen: Kind of like our song "Mr. Right" -- we've all gone through the good and the bad relationships.

J-14: Have you had any crazy fan encounters on the road?
Eric:
There's some crazy fans for sure. One time we were in Florida on our friend's bus, just playing video games, and someone upfront yelled to us about some crazy girls outside. We're like, 'Okay, whatever.' Five minutes later we hear a thud. We look out the window, and there's this girl hanging off the bus -- she's hanging onto the window trying to look in. It was crazy. So we closed all the blinds!

J-14: What was it like touring with Hey Monday and 3OH!3?
Nick:
[Hey Monday's] Cassadee is a crazy, crazy little girl. She's a sweetheart but she's insane. She's just like one of the guys on tour. You don't even expect that she's a girl!
Justin Richards: 3OH!3 are some of the coolest, most down-to-earth dudes. You'd never think that they had the number one single.
Eric: They hung out with us every single day on their bus. We would eat their food.
Andrew: Real good food.

J-14: Do you guys have any celeb crushes right now?
Eric:
Nick's celeb crush is Taylor Swift.
Justin: I'm pretty into Taylor too. I really like Kristen Stewart. And Rob Pattinson - he's a dreamboat.

A Rocket To The Moon is currently on tour with The Summer Set, Vita, and Ian Walsh. Their OP Presents: Boys Like Girls, Cobra Starship, A Rocket To The Moon, and VersaEmerge Tour starts November 1. Check out the dates after the jump!

Taylor Swift to Host & Perform on SNL
November 7

TaylorSwiftCover.jpg

All those cheer captains and girls in short skirts in school must be jealous now! Our favorite T-shirt and bleachers girl, Taylor Swift, will be hosting the hottest Saturday night bash -- Saturday Night Live that is!

Yup, Taylor will be hosting and performing on SNL on November 7... an honor that's only been reserved for a select few, like Justin Timberlake and Janet Jackson!

She says it's "mind-blowing" and it's been tough to keep the big news a secret since she was asked during the summer.

Taylor made her SNL debut as a musical guest in January -- and also took part in a skit where she played Broadway's Annie.

So what kind of skits will she be part of? "I've been thinking about skit ideas for a long time," she says. "There are definitely some hilarious things that have happened to me over the past couple of months that I think will be pretty substantial skits.

She adds, "Of course I've been such a fan for a long time, but I've gone back and re-watched everything over the past couple of months and digital shorts would be so much fun to do, because they've been done so well. Andy Samberg is hilarious.""

What skits would you like to see Taylor do?

Spotted: Taylor Lautner at Taylor Swift's Chicago Concert!

TaylorSwiftTaylorLauter.jpg

There's no question that Taylor Swift and Taylor Lautner had total chemistry on the set of their upcoming film, Valentine's Day.

And in real life, the two definitely are fond of each other. As j14.com previously reported, when T-Swift was asked what she thought about T-Lautner's crush on her, she called him "Tay Tay."

And on Friday night, Mr. Lautner was spotted at Miss Swift's show at the Allstate Arena in Chicago. The Twilight star walked in took a seat on the floor level -- right next to Taylor Swift's mom!

During every show, the country sweetheart works her way through the crowd, giving hugs to all -- and when she got to the actor (how confusing to keep two Taylors straight! :)), she gave him a nice long hug as the area erupted into crazy screams.

Do you think Taylor Squared would make a good couple?

Beyonce Speaks Out About Kanye and Taylor Swift!

BeyonceFREE.jpg

Beyonce's kept pretty quiet about the whole Taylor Swift/Kanye West VMA debacle -- until now! The singer finally sounded off on why Kanye did it and what was running through her mind when it happened...

"He told me before, when they said the nominees, he's like, 'You have this award,'" Beyonce spilled. She had no idea what he was going to do if she didn't though! "When they didn't call my name he was, like, completely shocked," Beyonce explained. "When he walked on stage, I was like, 'No, no, no!' and then he spoke, and I was like, 'Oh, no, no, no!'"

And of course B admitted that she was happy to let Taylor have her moment at the end!

This Just In: Lady Gaga & Kanye West Tour Canceled

LadyGaGaInterscope.jpg

Lady Gaga and Kanye West were getting ready to head out on their "Fame Kills" tour together -- when the entire tour was suddenly canceled!

Just a few days ago, Gaga had spoken out in support of Kanye following the Taylor Swift incident saying, "I would say he's a good guy and everybody makes mistakes, and he feels so bad. He really does... everyone likes to focus on gossip, but he's changed music and he's really prolific and an incredible person, and I think it's unfair to judge somebody on one mistake they've made. He's really kind of shown me a lot, as a friend, planning this tour -- it's all about the fans. I felt like that moment really portrayed him in a way that he really isn't. It was just a random moment."

Despite that, the entire tour was canceled on Thursday. No official explanation was given, but refunds will be available for anyone who bought tickets already.

Would you go see a Lady Gaga and Kanye West tour if it was still happening?

Taylor Swift Calls Taylor Lautner "Tay Tay"!

TaylorSwiftTaylorLauter.jpg

Just a few minutes ago, Taylor Swift phoned in to New York radio station Z100 and chatted about everything from the outpouring of support from her fans to her love for Kings of Leon (she knows all the words and was singing them at their concert!).

And when she was asked about Taylor Lautner having a crush on her, she immediately called him, "Tay Tay." Awww! How sweet!

The two aren't an item, but she did say he's great... and she's by default on Team Jacob since she hasn't met Rob Pattinson.

If they WERE to start dating, what do you think their couple name would be? (Kinda would have to be TayTay, huh?)

Do Miley Cyrus' Friends Think She's Rob Pattinson?!

MileyCyrusRobPattinson.jpg

Miley Cyrus was a guest on The Jay Leno Show today as part of Jay's new segment, "10@10" where he asks a celeb 10 random questions, wherever they might be in the world.

Miley was sitting in the stadium as the crew was setting up the stage for her big concert tonight while she answered Jay's quick-fire questions. She said that she loves putting ketchup on pizza, that her favorite Jonas Brother is Frankie (eeks -- this aired on Nick's birthday!), that she thought what Kanye West did to Taylor Swift at the VMAs was "rude" and "disrespectful"... and that her nickname is "Spider Monkey!"

"Spider Monkey"? As in a reference to what Rob Pattinson's Edward Cullen calls Bella Swan in the Twilight movie (not book)!
