New York vs. New Jersey: Housewives catfight

jill-and-danielle932.jpgFilming is on hold for the 11 women who make up the casts of The Real Housewives of New York City and The Real Housewives of New Jersey -- but the drama is wilder than ever anyway. Behind the scenes, the New Yorkers haven't missed a chance to take a potshot at their New Jersey rivals, whose table-flipping finale drew a record 4.6 million viewers to the Bravo network. Not that the New York City housewives are jealous. "I think it was just a lot of theatrics," Countess LuAnn de Lesseps sniffed when Life & Style asked for her opinion of New Jersey's first season. "They created quite a spectacle." The two casts, she adds, can hardly be compared. "We're completely different," she tells Life & Style. "We live in two completely different worlds."

Those worlds are set to collide off camera this fall. New Yorkers Jill Zarin and Alex McCord will cross the Hudson River to confront Caroline Manzo and Teresa Giudice on their New Jersey home turf during a no-holds-barred debate at the Bergen Performing Arts Center in Englewood, N.J. But who would win if it came to a real fight?

The Real Housewives of New York City stars Alex and Simon's ecofriendly makeover

image[1].jpg

The run-down Brooklyn town house of The Real Housewives of New York City's Alex McCord and Simon van Kempen had been the subject of ridicule from castmates and fans alike. But now, with their brand-new kitchen, dining room and living room, the couple are flaunting what Alex calls "a space that screams Alex and Simon! A space we feel is beautiful and also livable." While they splurged on a top-of-the-line GE Monogram two-oven range, 48-inch fridge and wine cooler, the couple are proudest of their green stance; the furniture is made of ecosuede fabrics from recycled plastic bottles, the pantry doors are sustainable bamboo and art purchases benefited charities. "We spent a lot of money," Alex says about the redo of the family's 3,000-square-foot home. "So we tried to use our dollars to do good for someone else."

Reality star is latest victim of recession!

AlexMcCord911.jpg

Alex McCord really knows the meaning of recession -- the star of The Real Housewives of New York City has lost her real-life job.

Alex, who worked in visual merchandising for Victoria's Secret, tells Life & Style exclusively about how she is handling the shocking news.

"It was definitely a very big surprise. My own immediate supervisor didn't even know it was happening," says Alex, who lost her job when the company cut 10 percent of its home-office workforce recently.

Though her last day of work was Feb. 27, Alex isn't wasting any time trying to find a job. "It's really interesting to see where to go from here. I've been making calls, updating my résumé, and sitting down with people and chatting. I'm exploring all of my options."

Alex, who is a Brooklyn-based mother of two young boys, says her family has been "incredibly supportive." Her husband, Simon, still works as the general manager for Hotel Chandler, and Alex hasn't collected unemployment. But, she adds, "if I'm not able to replace my income by the time my severance runs out, discretionary expenses and our nanny are where we'd have to cut back."

In the meantime, she'll continue to be a part of the reality show and says her castmates "have been overwhelmingly supportive."
