Maksim Chmerkovskiy: Karina and I are not friends

karina-maks-943.jpgKarina Smirnoff recently told Life & Style she's still getting along with ex-fiancé Maksim Chmerkovskiy. But Maks had a different take on their two-step when Life & Style asked if he and Karina are still friends. "No," he said at the LA County Fair on Sept. 27. "She's a lot better at hiding her feelings apparently than I am. I just need to drop the sad person act and move on."

After a nine-month engagement, the Dancing With the Stars duo called it quits in September, but have to see each other daily on the ABC hit, where Maks is partnered with actress Debi Mazar and Karina's dancing with singer Aaron Carter. "I hate the situation with Karina because it's really gotten blown out of proportion," Maks tells Life & Style. "It's done. It's over with."

Dancing With the Stars' diet secrets

941Cover.jpgNot every celebrity on ABC's Dancing With the Stars will perform a perfect tango -- but the contestants are guaranteed a big jump-start on achieving a perfect body. For both the stars and the professional dancers on the show, "weight loss is easy and rapid," dancing pro Karina Smirnoff tells Life & Style. "The dancing is the diet, but everyone is different. So if celebrities really want to get the most out of the experience, they implement a healthy diet full of protein."

KARINA PACKS HER DIET WITH FRUITS AND VEGGIES

Professional dancer Karina Smirnoff, 31, is a svelte 110 pounds, but even she has to tweak her diet to get into top TV shape. The 5-foot-5 dancer tells Life & Style she typically has egg whites with spinach and tomato for breakfast, fruit for lunch, and salad and fish for dinner. But her best diet advice? "Listen to your body," she says. "There are foods that your system will digest easily and others it will struggle with. Of course, fruits and veggies are always good."

KELLY FINALLY DROPS THE POUNDS

Fan favorite Kelly Osbourne, 24, says that after years of yoyo dieting, dancing has been the only healthy way she's been able to lose weight. "I do five hours of rehearsals a day -- sometimes even six," she told Life & Style at the 7th Annual Teen Vogue Young Hollywood Party on Sept. 26. The 5-foot-3 star lost 14 pounds in the first six weeks of rehearsals; since then, she's lost even more inches. "My body is completely changing; I'm getting really small in places where I've never been that small before!" Kelly says. "Kelly has cut out late-night snacking," an insider tells Life & Style. She also drinks six glasses of water a day.

MYA ADDS MUSCLE MASS

Mya, 30, has slimmed down -- and toned up! "I lost 11 pounds in four weeks," the 5-foot-5½ contestant told Life & Style at a Humane Society event in LA on Sept. 22. And the singer continues to keep off the weight with occasional twice-daily runs that speed up the metabolism. "My body has gotten more toned," she told Life & Style at the beginning of rehearsal. "I'm seeing a lot more definition, especially in my arms."

DEBI FILLS UP ON H2O

"I've lost 11 pounds, and I've noticed my body toning in weird areas," Debi Mazar, 45, tells Life & Style. Thanks to five-day-a-week rehearsals -- and in spite of a torn neck muscle -- she even notes, "My bra bulge is gone!" The 5-foot-5 actress and cooking-show co-host keeps her energy up with homemade lunches of pasta, fruit and even chocolate, plus "tons of water." Staying hydrated helps prevent fatigue so you can get through your workout.

Karina and Maks: the wedding's on hold!

Karina&Maksim917.jpgAmerica's favorite dancing duo, Karina Smirnoff and Maksim Chmerkovskiy of Dancing with the Stars, are so busy these days, they don't even have time to plan their wedding!

"We need a break for a couple of days to sit down and talk about stuff. It's so hard," Maksim told Life & Style at A/X Celebrates the Launch of Armani Exchange Watches at the SLS Hotel in Los Angeles on April 15. "Karina's so business-oriented, and so am I. If I catch her in the moment, I'm like, 'Baby can we talk about this?' and she's like, 'Yeah, one second. Let me send this e-mail and answer this phone call.'"

Even if the couple, who have been dating since the summer, did have time to organize, it looks like their family is trying to do it for them! "It's not about what we want - it's about what the Russian parents want. I honestly would take her, our parents, our immediate family and go to the islands to do our thing and stay for a couple of weeks and relax and enjoy, but there's no way," Maksim said. The couple got engaged on New Year's Eve while in Las Vegas.

And as for the rumor that Karina's DWTS partner, Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak, will walk Karina down the aisle? "That's not happening. [But] he's a very good friend of ours," Maksim said. Will he be at the wedding? "Oh, he has to be!" Maksim exclaimed. "He'd better be!"

L&S exclusive: DWTS' Karina blows out her knee -- and gets surgery!

3485016019132CF220F009.jpg
It looks like Dancing With the Stars' Karina Smirnoff won't be getting an early start on rehearsals this season!

She injured a knee and was still recovering from surgery on Jan. 30, forcing her to skip her appearance with fiancé Maksim Chmerkovskiy at Shrine Asian Kitchen, Lounge & Nightclub at Foxwoods in Connecticut.

"The doctor ordered Karina to stay put, but I know that she really wanted to come and was ready to party!" an insider tells Life & Style.

"Her injury was the result of wear and tear -- not a specific incident," another insider adds. "Being a dancer, you have to really take care of yourself. If you're going from this to that then to something else and you never get a break, it takes its toll."

But don't worry! Karina will be back and ready to do her best fox-trot when the new season of DWTS returns on March 9.

"Karina's doing fine and will be good to go for the new season," her rep, Michelle Berger, tells Life & Style.
