For Gossip Girl star Kelly Rutherford, the news that she was expecting her second child came as a bittersweet surprise. Already the mother of adorable 2-year-old son Hermés, Kelly was overjoyed at the idea of having another baby. But her volatile three-year marriage to the children's father was already at the breaking point.

So when she was three months pregnant, Kelly, 40, made the heart-wrenching decision to leave her husband, Daniel Giersch, and have the baby on her own. Their daughter, Helena Grace, was born on June 8 in LA. Now, for the first time since the controversial split, Kelly is speaking out.

Things ended badly when Kelly Rutherford's estranged husband, Daniel Giersch, made a brief visit to see his newborn daughter, Helena, for the first time on June 16. "He showed up with flowers, knowing there would be press outside," an insider close to the Gossip Girl star tells Life & Style. "But when he got inside, he threw the flowers down and got cold, rude and stern." Giersch even cut short the hour-long visit allowed by court order, spending only a "few minutes" holding Helena and leaving after half an hour, says the insider.

A rep for Gossip Girl actress Kelly Rutherford confirms to Life & Style exclusively that Kelly gave birth to an adorable baby girl named Helena Grace Rutherford Giersch at 9:20 pm yesterday in Los Angeles. Helena Grace weighed in at 8 pounds 12 ounces. "Kelly and the baby are doing just fine," the rep tells Life & Style. This is the second child for Kelly. She has a two-year-old son, Hermes Gustaf. Also worth noting, Kelly's ex-husband and Helena's father, Daniel Giersch, was notified of the birth and invited to the hospital.

Despite her ongoing divorce battle with estranged husband Daniel Giersch, Kelly Rutherford tells Life & Style she's getting through these tough times.

"We have kids together. We have a beautiful son together. I think we're both decent people. But sometimes you go through tough times," a pregnant Kelly told Life & Style at the Matthew Williamson store opening in New York City on Feb. 15.

"It's a challenge, you know? I think everyone goes through it on a certain level."

"When it's public, it's really hard. People say things they don't mean because they're upset. I'm hoping we can work it out."

On a lighter note, Kelly admitted the sex of the baby to reporters but kept mum when it came to a name. "It's a girl. We talked about a name that we both like."

She also said this pregnancy feels a bit different from her last. "It feels much larger this time, but they tell me that's normal. When you have a 2½-year-old you're running after the second time around, it's a little different.

Don't expect Kelly Rutherford's pregnancy to become part of the Gossip Girl story line!

Speaking to Life & Style at the launch of Living Spaces, Sylvania's new line of compact fluorescent light bulbs, Kelly, who plays Lily van der Woodsen on the show, says she told the writers that she's expecting — she's due in June — but doesn't expect them to change the script. "With what they've written now, it's so wonderful, I hope they don't change it, " she says. "But they could change their minds. I'm hoping I can just walk around holding bowls of fruit — or standing behind counters! My handbags will get a little bit bigger."

Does Kelly, 40, want to find out the gender of her new baby? "If I can find out about anything," she says, "I want to know!"

She and husband Daniel Giersch already have a 2-year-old son, Hermés, who's been told that he has a new brother or sister on the way. "He rubs my tummy and says, 'Mommy's tummy!'" says Kelly.
