Though Casey Johnson's passing is no doubt a tragedy, the 30-year-old heiress' untimely death did serve to reunite childhood friends Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie, who attended a private memorial at Nicky Hilton's LA house on Jan. 5. "On such a sad day it brought a smile to my face to at least have one dear friend back in my life," Paris tells Life & Style. "With my traveling, I haven't seen Nicole in a long time, and she's been so busy with having her two babies."

The former Simple Life stars, both 28, were girlhood pals who had an infamous falling-out in 2005 -- reportedly over a betrayal by Nicole that was never disclosed. Though the socialites have been in sporadic contact since, a friend close to the girls says it took tragedy to re-seal their bond. "Casey would be happy to know that even in this tragedy, she brought these friends back together," says the insider. "Like any best friends, people can get in an argument. But at the end of the day, they love each other, and that's what matters most."

Harlow Madden has a baby brother! Nicole Richie gave birth to her second child, a boy, early this morning.

"Sparrow James Midnight Madden was born to Nicole Richie and Joel Madden," announces Nicole's Web site. "He weighs 7lbs. 14oz. Nicole, Joel, Harlow and Sparrow are all doing well. Thank you for all of your good wishes."

Sparrow was born 19 months after big sister Harlow.

This was supposed to be a joyous time of year for Adam "DJ AM" Goldstein. This Sept. 19 would have marked one year since the beloved Holly­wood personality -- a popular fixture on the nightlife scene and the former fiancé of Nicole Richie -- survived a harrowing plane crash that killed four others. Sadly, AM won't be commemorating
the occasion. Police found the 36-year-old dead inside his NYC apartment around 5:30 p.m. on Aug. 28.

Even more tragically, AM -- who claimed to have been drug-free for 11 years -- was surrounded by drugs when found dead. A close friend of his, actor Alex Burns, alerted authorities when he grew concerned because AM had missed his flight to Las Vegas, where he was to have performed. Once police managed to break down the door of AM's $2 million condominium in Soho, they reportedly found Adam's body facedown on the bed, a nearly empty bag of crack stuck to his chest and bottles of prescription pills in the kitchen.

"It's such a shock," longtime friend Caitlin Ross told Life & Style in the hours fol­lowing AM's death. "I thought it was a joke. I still can't believe it."
