Meet Rob and Taylor's new competition!

CharlieChaske.jpgLike his New Moon character, Sam Uley, Chaske (pronounced Chess-kay) Spencer proved to be leader of the pack on set in Vancouver, British Columbia. "I was the older brother or father figure," he told Life & Style during an exclusive photo shoot with costar Charlie Bewley on Nov. 4 in LA. "I'm very protective of Taylor Lautner, Alex Meraz and Kiowa Gordon. We can get on each other's nerves, but it's just like a family." British export Charlie Bewley, who plays Volturi vampire Demetri, crossed the pond to make his big-screen debut in New Moon -- and life will never be the same! "I haven't really absorbed the whole thing," he admitted during Life & Style's exclusive New Moon shoot. "But I'm working out a rapid autograph style now. It's coming along nicely."

L&S: You and Taylor both gained 30 pounds of muscle. Did you hold weight-lifting contests?

Chaske Spencer: We were all really competitive and supportive of one another. One time, I had the highest score on this rowing machine, and the next day I came in and Rob [Pattinson] had beaten me -- he worked out at night, and the wolves came in during the day. I beat him again, but on the last day of shooting, I came in and he'd beaten me by a second.

L&S: Do people ever ask you to take off your shirt?

Chaske Spencer: All the time! Just seeing myself shirtless on the posters makes me very self-conscious. When the Twilight saga's over, I'm not going to the gym for a while.

L&S: This is your first movie. What was it like working with veteran Dakota Fanning?

Charlie Bewley: She's wonderful. The most impressive thing is the way she works the camera with her eyes. Dakota has a wonderful stillness for a 15-yearold actress. It's something most people don't master in a lifetime.

L&S: Do girls swoon over your accent, or are they unable to understand you?

Charlie Bewley: It's a bit of both. I've never been asked out by an American woman, though. The one physical commonality my girlfriends have had is that they have disproportionately large heads. It's kind of weird.

Move over, Robert: Twilight showdown!

PAttinson945.jpgW hat a difference a year makes! Last November, Robert Pattinson amassed a bloodthirsty legion of fans as the big-screen incarnation of author Stephenie Meyers' perfect man, vampire Edward Cullen, in Twilight.

While Rob, 23, helped Twilight gross nearly $400 million worldwide, he's now taking a backseat to -- and going six-pack to six-pack with -- 17-year-old Taylor Lautner in the movie's sequel New Moon, which roars into theaters on Nov. 20.

"I'm not the lead in the second film. Taylor is," Rob says. "I just have significant moments at the beginning and the end. I'm more of a supporting role." Indeed, Taylor's character, werewolf Jacob Black, romances Bella Swan (played by Robert's real-life girlfriend, Kristen Stewart) when Edward skips town.

Taylor Lautner takes off!

Twilight943.jpgJust six short weeks before New Moon's Nov. 20 premiere, Taylor Lautner proved he's more than qualified to take on the role of the Twilight franchise's leading man during a sultry photo shoot on Oct. 8 in LA. "I'm excited for the film to come out," Taylor, who flexes over 30 pounds of added muscle as Jacob Black in the sequel, tells Life & Style. "And to see the fans' reactions."
If it's any indication, Taylor's co-stars are resoundingly impressed by the bulked-up
17-year-old's performance. "He rides the motorcycle in the films -- I always thought it was a stunt double," Christian Serratos, who plays high school student Angela Weber, tells Life & Style. "He got on the motorcycle and did a lap around the parking lot, and I was like, 'Damn, Taylor.' He looked sexy!"

37 New Moon secrets

rpatz-and-kristen932.jpgThe screams from fans were deafening when the cast of the Twilight sequel, New Moon, hit Comic-Con International in San Diego on July 23. But the crowd could practically hear a pin drop when a certain question was posed at a news conference with Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner. Addressing Kristen's relationship with Rob, a reporter noted, "You guys have great chemistry on film romantically -- is there any chemistry off camera?"

Instead of denying their romance (which Life & Style was the first to report), a clearly annoyed Kristen chose not to answer. But her relationship with Rob, which ended in July, was the only thing off-limits as the cast whetted appetites for New Moon, which hits theaters on Nov. 20. "It's the beginning of a love triangle," said Taylor, discussing how his character, Jacob, falls for Bella after she loses Edward.

Taylor and Selena: it's official -- they're dating!

Taylor&Selena922.jpg

Taylor Lautner and Selena Gomez claim they're just friends, but onlookers in Vancouver, British Columbia -- where he's filming New Moon and she's shooting Ramona and Beezus -- tell Life & Style the two are definitely a teen supercouple! On May 4, the duo dined at The Keg restaurant. "Taylor walked Selena back to her hotel afterward," says a witness. "When she didn't think anyone was around, she wrapped her arms around his neck and gave him a big kiss!" When it was time to leave, adds the witness, Taylor snuck out the back door.

Things heated up even more during Canada's Victoria Day weekend. Selena, 16, spent May 16 shopping with Taylor's younger sister, the witness says. The next day, Taylor, 17, swung by Selena's hotel and picked her up for a late lunch at the Japanese spot Ichiban-Ya. As they sat in the back dining on sushi and sipping iced tea, an onlooker heard Taylor tell Selena, "You smell good -- I always smell you. I smelled you on my pillow this morning." Selena responded with a giggle, and Taylor picked up the check. Still, the duo haven't had the easiest time letting their romance bloom -- Taylor's father has been keeping a protective eye on them, and Selena has a large bodyguard who's often around. But despite the obstacles, the two have become inseparable in recent weeks, even going go-karting and checking out the flick 17 Again at a local theater. How cute!

New Moon stars let loose at Jackson Rathbone's Vancouver concert!

Twilight917.jpgWhen the cameras are away, the New Moon stars will play! The cast came out to support fellow castmate Jackson Rathbone and his band, 100 Monkeys, when they played at the Vancouver, British Columbia, club Backstage Lounge on April 14. Although they were bombarded by Twilight fans, the group seemed to enjoy its time away from the set.

"Kellan Lutz, Taylor Lautner, Peter Facinelli, Nikki Reed, Kristen Stewart and Ashley Greene were all there to cheer Jackson on," an eyewitness tells Life & Style.

And they did more than cheer: It seemed like everyone was happy to have a break from shooting -- and some of them let their guard down. Explains the eyewitness, "Taylor was preoccupied with a tall brunette. They were really into each other, dancing very close. She grabbed his crotch numerous times!"

Meanwhile, Nikki Reed was doing some flirting of her own. Says the witness, "Nikki was definitely into one of Jackson's bandmates. While they were performing, she reached onstage and grazed his crotch with her hand. He quickly jumped back with a startled look on his face."

And Ashley Greene seems to have found love! "Ashley was there with actor Ian Somerhalder, who appears to be her new boyfriend," the witness says. "The two seemed really happy and kissed throughout the show!"

In Life & Style now: Twilight fight!

915Cover.jpg

Taylor Lautner has taken Robert Pattinson's place as New Moon's leading man, Jacob Black, and now the newly announced cast that makes up the movie's wolf pack has stepped on Robert's heartthrob territory. Even worse, the crew's reportedly leaking rumors about his bad hygiene, and his co-stars are dishing about Rob's pickup lines. In the meantime, Taylor's clearly reveling in his new role -- and the notice he's getting for the roughly 30 pounds of muscle he packed on - from fans and co-star Kristen Stewart.

While Kristen got cozy with Robert during production of Twilight, she now seems to have ditched him in favor of Taylor. They've had plenty of alone time filming scenes together on remote Tofino beaches, and the two were spotted keeping each other company off set at Earl's Restaurant and during a leisurely walk through downtown Vancouver on March 18. It's all too much for insecure Robert -- who says he doubts his own looks and even his kissing technique -- to handle. "He's feeling very worried about his status as a fading superstar," an insider tells Life & Style. "And his friends are also concerned that Robert's Twilight success may have only been short-lived, and they feel bad for him."

In Life & Style now: Twilight's hot hookups: back on!

cover-913.jpg

The cast members of Twilight have promptly reheated their on-screen passion on the set of the movie's sequel, New Moon. "We went through a lot together, so we feel very close," says Kristen Stewart about her co-star Robert Pattinson. But it also seems like more than mere friendship as Kristen blushed uncontrollably when asked about kissing Robert at a recent news conference. "We all get along so fantastically, and we all have such great chemistry," co-star Ashley Greene, who plays Alice Cullen, told Life & Style.

But with Robert taking a smaller role in the sequel, new leading man Taylor Lautner (Jacob Black) threatens to divide this cozy twosome. "Jacob and Bella are best friends, and I know Taylor takes it very seriously in terms of forming that connection with Kristen and making sure that it's authentic," Rachelle Lefevre, who plays villainous vampire Victoria, tells Life & Style. "I don't think he's competing with Rob; I just know that he's going to be sure that his relationship with Kristen is just as intense and has just as much chemistry."

Robert vs. Taylor: Twilight showdown

Twilight910.jpg

After hiding out in his native London for more than a month, Twilight's breakout star, Robert Pattinson, returned to Hollywood to stake his claim to the hearts of crazed fans. "I'm happy to be back," he told Life & Style exclusively while downing a Stella Artois beer at LA's Palihouse hotel on Feb. 18.

But Rob's journey could be cut short because his character, vampire Edward Cullen, skips town in the flick's sequel, New Moon. The story then centers on his ladylove, Bella (Kristin Stewart), getting closer to werewolf Jacob Black.

Enter fresh-faced Taylor Lautner, who stars as Jacob, to steal the spotlight. "I wanted to get Twilight over with, let Edward have his time with Bella and get moving with New Moon," Taylor tells Life & Style. "It's about time Jacob got in there."

Twilight shock: Who's in, who's out!

Twilight852.jpg

Twilight is still raking in big bucks at the box office, but the real drama is taking place behind the scenes of the sequel, which has an expanded $50 million budget and is set to start filming in March, according to reports.

The Golden Compass director Chris Weitz will replace director Catherine Hardwicke at the helm of New Moon, the movie based on the second of Stephenie Meyer's best-selling vampire novels.

Life & Style has also learned that one of the actors may be replaced as well: Taylor Lautner, 16, who plays the minor role of Jacob Black in Twilight. In New Moon, Jacob becomes the leading man. "They've looked at other people," a set insider says.
