Hey guys!
Here at J-14 we're already working on the February issue -- so naturally I'm in Valentine's Day/romantic mode! I was excited to hear that Paper Heart, one of my fave flicks this year, was out on DVD. I first saw it in theaters with my boyfriend (aww!) thinking it would be a perfect romcom compromise -- ding, ding, ding, totally right, we both liked it!
Paper Heart follows funny girl Charlyne Yi and her quest to find out about love, which she doesn't really believe in. The flick is filmed documentary-style and the on-screen relationship between Charlyne Yi and Michael Cera, the guy she eventually falls for, will trick you into thinking there really was no script. Plus, the two were dating in real life, so it's no doubt that their chemistry wasn't faked for the cameras! You'll enjoy watching their love (or I guess, "like-like") unfold while Charlyne interviews real people about love and animates their stories using paper doll puppets.
Be prepared to be swept away by the ever-charming Michael Cera who you might know from Juno, Superbad, or Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist. Do you like nerdy-cute guys with a great sense of humor and puppy dog brown eyes? Yup, I thought so -- you'll love him too! I couldn't wait to dive into Paper Heart's special feature section for more Michael! Check out the "Heaven" music video with him and Charlyne. The deleted scenes and love interviews with different comedians -- like SNL's Bill Hader! -- will keep you laughing, and "The Making of Paper Heart" is not to be missed for behind the scenes insight with the movie's director.
Paper Heart is the ideal holiday gift for movie lovers on your list who dig any of the following:
a) Michael Cera
b) indie flicks and/or mockumentaries
c) quirky love stories
d) or, um, just love!
Let me know what you think if you've seen the movie! And let's get serious here, do you believe in love?
XOXO,
Lisa
