J-14 Exclusive Q&A with Fame's Asher Book and Kay Panabaker

J14FameExclusivePic2.jpg

J-14: Were you familiar with the original Fame before you became a part of this one?

Kay Panabaker: Kind of. I didn't watch it until I was being considered for the part. I was actually the first person to be cast for this, so I was really excited about that.

Asher Book: And I was the last one to be cast!

Kay: But when I did the screen tests reading the script with Asher, our chemistry was instantaneous. We just got each other and we got the humor. We were constantly goofing off.

J-14: How do you think this movie compares to the other musicals out there like High School Musical and Hairspray?

Asher: I think this shows the more emotional side of what people go through -- it's about the more emotional side of relationships and the more emotional side of the downfalls of trying to achieve your goals in music and dance. It's not as easy as what people sometimes make it out to be.

Kay: This is different from High School Musical in the sense that they show a bubbly happy version and in our movie every character goes through some heartache or some struggle.

J-14: What can you tell us about the music in the film?

Kay: There's this song that Asher sings that takes my breath away. It's called "Try," and it's a ballad. It's beautiful and he plays the piano while singing it -- literally girls will be playing this on their iPods on repeat because it's so pretty.

J-14: Was your own high school experience as dramatic as the film?

Asher: I actually went to this school we're filming at -- in performing arts schools, there are all kinds of talents walking through the hallways so you never know what you are going to find. But there were definitely those people that were singing in the hallway.

J-14:For all of the teens out there today who have never seen the original Fame, why should they go and see this movie?

Kay: Because it's their story. It's about following your dreams. And also, this generation is all about YouTube and that instantaneous fame and the movie shows that if you want long-term success than you have to put the work into it.

Asher: All of the artists out there will appreciate this movie. But I think everyone young and old will enjoy it too because it has that edgy appeal to it and I think there are so many more aspects to the movie that will really attract people of all ages.

DVD Review -- Bring It On: Fight to the Finish

BringItOnFight.jpg

Hey J-14ers!

It's Jenna here! I just caught a sneak peek of the new DVD, Bring It On: Fight to the Finish, and it's amazing! Out of habit, I've seen every Bring It On movie since the original came out back in 2000 (I could probably recite all their cheers!)! And although in the past some of their movies have been, well, a bit disappointing (because nothing can beat the original!), this time I was pleasantly surprised on how good it was!

This fifth movie in the Bring It On series features some cool stars, like singer Christina Milian and new hottie Cody Longo who will be premiering in the remake of Fame this September! Plus their hot, new stunts and choreography will leave you wanting more! Now I don't want to give too much away, but when a new squad is formed to take down the All Star Cheer Champions, a squad of mean girls who will do anything to win, things get intense! Can you guys say, bring on the drama?

The DVD has tons of cool features, like deleted scenes, Mun2: The Chicas Project: "Flip This" where you can watch an episode of The Chicas Project where the Chicas go to a Texas cheer camp, and many more! Personally, my fave feature was "Practice Round", where you get to see choreographer Tony G teach the cast the cheer routines! I wish I could do some of the cool stunts they learned!

Plus the movie has tons of awesome music from artists like Lady Gaga, Kat DeLuna, The Veronicas, and of course, Christina Milian.

Bring It On: Fight to the Finish will be available on DVD and Blu-Ray at stores near you September 1. You guys should definitely pick it up -- I'll be practicing my cheer moves right along with you!

Love,

Your J-14 intern,
Jenna<3

Fame's Soundtrack Rocks!

FamePoster.jpg

Hey J-14ers!

It's Jenna again, J-14 intern and music lover. I've mentioned before my love for music, and now I'm gonna tell you guys about the songs I'm currently playing repeatedly on my iTunes, the Fame Soundtrack -- in stores now!

Like you guys, I'm counting down the days 'til Fame premieres, because hey- musicals count as music too! So when one of our editors, Rachel Chang, asked if I wanted to hear the soundtrack, I was so excited! Thankfully, the soundtrack did not disappoint me! Some of the cool, new singers from the movie featured on this soundtrack like Naturi Naughton and V Factory's Asher Book are amazing!

Naturi Naughton's voice has the ability to hit so many different vocal ranges my jaw literally dropped when I heard her! As for Asher, along with being really cute, he has a great voice that makes you want to hear more. Ironically, Asher sang my favorite song on the album called "Ordinary People"! All the songs help you understand the story of the character that sings it, and hearing the album only made me more excited for the movie!

Fame's soundtrack is already available, so if you haven't already, you J-14ers should definitely go out and pick it up- you won't be disappointed either!

Your Intern,
Jenna<3

17AgainZacHunterMichelle.jpg

J-14 was at the Hollywood premiere of Zac Efron's movie, 17 Again, tonight at the Mann's Chinese Theater... and couldn't wait to share the details with you right away!

- The first star to arrive was Mitchel Musso, who came with his best friend, Sam.
- The entire cast of Fame arrived together -- and they truly seemed like one big family. And one member of the family is V Factory's Asher Book who was J-14's special reporter from the premiere!
- Zac Efron looked super adorable -- and was so charming and made sure he talked to as many people as he could! Awww!
- Sterling Knight arrived just in the nick of time, and had to run into the theater quickly!
- Michelle Tractenberg dazzled in a long purple gown.
- Vanessa Hudgens totally respected that this was Zac's big night and arrived separately from him, about 20 minutes later!
- High School Musical alumni Bart Johnson, Chris Warren Jr,, Olesya Rulin and Monique Coleman all showed up to support their pal Zac!
- The Jonas Brothers Twittered as they arrived, but rushed into the theater to support Zac.
- It was a cold night for California and everyone was freezing cold. :(

J-14 Exclusive FAME Set Visit Video!

J-14 got exclusive access to the stars of the upcoming movie FAME this week right in our backyard in New York City.

The movie stars Kay Panabaker (you might remember her as the preppy Debbie on Phil of the Future and as Jesse McCartney's little sister and Zac Efron's crush on Summerland...lucky girl!) as Jenny and Asher Book (yup, that's him from V Factory!) as Marco.

We watched them shoot a super dramatic scene on the rooftop of a midtown performing arts school (that just happened to be the school Asher went to in real life for three years!). But in between three separate takes, Kay and Asher were busy chatting it up with us... and creating this special video message, just for you J-14 readers!

And stay tuned to j14.com and upcoming issues of J-14 for more on FAME (out this September).
