J-14 Staff Picks: Best TV Shows of the Decade

DawsonsCreek.jpg

As the decade draws to a close, the J-14 staff reflects back on our favorite TV show of the decade:

Sex and the City
"It's the ultimate chick show! What's not to love about four women wandering around New York City trying to figure out life?! I can't wait for the second movie to come out in May!" -- Associate Editor Kim Messina

The O.C.
"That show was so awesome that my friend and I used to text each other as it aired if we weren't in the same room. Plus nothing can beat Seth and Ryan's bromance or Seth's one-liners." -- Assistant Editor Emily Krauser

Family Guy
"It's funny and more rude than anything that was on before it." -- Assistant Art Director Erik Jacobsen

American Idol
"Because where would television and music be without the American Idols?!" -- Photo Assistant Katelyn Mullen

Dawson's Creek (Pictured)
"Not only did it push the envelope with its super quotable portrayal of teens on TV (yes, I kept a list of Dawson's Creek quotes!) -- but if it weren't for this show, Tom Cruise never would have known who Katie Holmes was and Matilda Ledger might not exist." -- Editor-in-Chief Rachel Chang

Freaks and Geeks
"Even though it only lasted one season, it perfectly illustrates how awkward (and funny) high school can be. Plus, it had Seth Rogan and James Franco before Pineapple Express!" -- Photo Director Danielle Kepler

Glee
"I live for this show every Wednesday -- it makes me laugh, cry, and fall in love every episode. And everyone has a little Rachel, Kurt, and Finn in them." -- Editorial Assistant Lisa Raphael

Do you agree or disagree? And what's your pick for best TV show of the decade?

Q&A with Lauren Conrad

laurenconrad.jpg

Lauren Conrad guest stars on Family Guy Sunday, May 3 on FOX in the episode "We Love You, Conrad." J-14 chatted with Lauren and she spilled about what its like voicing a cartoon character, her future in acting, and more!

Q: Are you a fan of Family Guy?
Lauren: I am a fan of the show. I've watched it for years. My favorite character is Stewie.

Q: What's it like seeing a cartoon version of yourself?
Lauren: It's fun. The most exciting part is to see what you look like animated. I feel like unless you have a really prominent feature on your face, you kind of just look like a cartoon character, so I thought it was fun.

Q: Besides Family Guy and The Hills, what TV shows are you loving right now?
Lauren: I really like Lost, and I'm watching Brothers & Sisters. 30 Rock is my favorite.

Q: Do you plan on taking more acting roles once The Hills is over?
Lauren: Acting, no. I've done a couple of cameos on shows, and it was fun to do it for the day, but it's not something I'm interested in. I've been doing voice work for about five years just because of The Hills, so that's something I would be interested in. Audrina is getting into acting, so she would probably be interested [in being a cartoon character]. I feel like any of the girls would be down. It's kind of a fun thing to do.

Q: In the episode, Brian discovers you're not like the way you're portrayed on TV. Do you think the real you is different from what people see on TV?
Lauren: A little bit. I don't know if it's necessarily me or just the reputation of an average reality star. They basically make fun of me for being dumb, and then Brian discovers that I'm actually a genius and that it's a character I play because America likes dumb people. It's a more exaggerated version of who I am, but it was fun to play.
