Hey Monday to headline AP Tour 2010!

heymonday.jpg

Last year female-fronted bands Paramore and No Doubt toured together, and it looks like 2010 will be a year dominated by rocking chicas too! Hey Monday is set to be one of tour headliners on the AP Tour 2010. The Cab, Every Avenue, and The Summer Set (also three J-14 faves) will open the shows. Every Avenue's lead singer Cassadee Pope tweeted "stoked for the @aptour," as did the whole band:

The last headlining band on the tour will be announced Friday, December 18, followed by the official tour dates.

Does the AP Tour 2010 sound like a good line-up?

Exclusive Q&A with A Rocket To The Moon!

ARocketToTheMoonReadingJ14.jpg

A Rocket To The Moon just dropped their debut album, On Your Side! We were excited to hear the new record, so the ARTTM boys -- lead singer and guitarist Nick Santino, guitarist Justin Richards, bassist Eric Halvorsen, and drummer Andrew Cook -- stopped by J-14's offices to talk to us about their fave songs, crazy fans, and their love for Taylor Swift!

J-14: Where did the name "A Rocket To The Moon" come from?
Nick Santino:
I started it as a solo thing a couple of years ago, and when I thought of a name, I wasn't really thinking of anything crazy behind it. [The name] sort of popped in my head. I don't know if I read something and it jumped out at me -- tt was just something that I put down and it stuck.

J-14: What's your favorite track off your new album, On Your Side?
Nick:
Mine would be "Like We Used To." It has a slower melody and is kind of a break up song, but it has a happy ending. I think it's a cute song.
Andrew Cook: My favorite is "On A Lonely Night." I love the vibe of the song. Every time I hear it, it's like listening to it for the first time. I really like how Caitlin's vocals kind of blend in to the song too, and it has a cool touch to it -- a sort of poppy country-ness to it. It makes me happy.

J-14: How did the "Annabelle" vs. "Dakota" storyline come about?
Nick:
Annabelle is like a pain kind of girlfriend that's really annoying, and Dakota is like the cute love. So I guess it seems like the love songs can be written about this character Dakota and all the hate, mean songs can be about Annabelle.
Eric Halvorsen: Kind of like our song "Mr. Right" -- we've all gone through the good and the bad relationships.

J-14: Have you had any crazy fan encounters on the road?
Eric:
There's some crazy fans for sure. One time we were in Florida on our friend's bus, just playing video games, and someone upfront yelled to us about some crazy girls outside. We're like, 'Okay, whatever.' Five minutes later we hear a thud. We look out the window, and there's this girl hanging off the bus -- she's hanging onto the window trying to look in. It was crazy. So we closed all the blinds!

J-14: What was it like touring with Hey Monday and 3OH!3?
Nick:
[Hey Monday's] Cassadee is a crazy, crazy little girl. She's a sweetheart but she's insane. She's just like one of the guys on tour. You don't even expect that she's a girl!
Justin Richards: 3OH!3 are some of the coolest, most down-to-earth dudes. You'd never think that they had the number one single.
Eric: They hung out with us every single day on their bus. We would eat their food.
Andrew: Real good food.

J-14: Do you guys have any celeb crushes right now?
Eric:
Nick's celeb crush is Taylor Swift.
Justin: I'm pretty into Taylor too. I really like Kristen Stewart. And Rob Pattinson - he's a dreamboat.

A Rocket To The Moon is currently on tour with The Summer Set, Vita, and Ian Walsh. Their OP Presents: Boys Like Girls, Cobra Starship, A Rocket To The Moon, and VersaEmerge Tour starts November 1. Check out the dates after the jump!

All time facts about All Time Low!

AllTimeLow.jpg

Hey J-14ers,

Intern Jenna here! Summer's a great time find some of the hottest bands out there, but I already know who my all time fave band is -- All Time Low!

I stumbled upon ATL while looking up Warped Tour tickets last year (I'm a concert junkie!), and I've been completely in love with their music, and them, ever since. Lead vocalist and guitarist Alex Gaskarth, guitarist Jack Barakat, bassist Zack Merrick, and drummer Rian Dawson are all really close friends who aren't just super talented, they're also incredibly cute! ;)

Their concerts are always crazy fun because the boys are always joking around! And while I've never met them, my dad met Zack without me! I still haven't forgiven him for that!

My fave things about All Time Low would be a really long list, so I'll just give you my top 5!

1. Alex has the funiest tattoo on the inside of his left wrist - a skeleton that's dressed up like a skeleton trick-or-treating!

2. They were still in high school when they were discovered!

3. ATL's new album, Nothing Personal, debuted at number 4 on the Billboard Top 100 chart.

4. Their band name comes from a phrase in New Found Glory's song, "Head On Collision."

5. All Time Low will be a part of The Glamour Kills Tour this fall, along with The Friday Night Boys (also awesome guys - I've met their guitarists Andrew Goldstein and Mike Toohey) and Hey Monday!

What do you guys think of All Time Low? What would you say if you could write a top 5 list about your fave band? And will you be catching The Glamour Kills Tour?

Check out The Glamour Kills Tour dates after the jump.

Your J-14 intern,
Jenna

Behind-the-scenes of the first Degrassi movie with Pete Wentz!

DegrassiMovie.jpg

It's almost here -- The N's first made-for-tv movie, Degrassi Goes To Hollywood! There are some major names from the music scene making cameos in the flick, including Fall Out Boy's Pete Wentz and Hey Monday's Cassadee Pope.

But Degrassi star Lauren Collins says Pete's appearance in the movie isn't as random as it may seem. "One of the characters, Craig Manning, has become an artist, and he's this big famous superstar and he's just, you know, just hanging out with Pete Wentz on the street, eating some ketchup chips," Lauren says. "And [Pete] plays himself."

Degrassi Goes To Hollywood premieres tomorrow, Friday, August 14, on the N at 8 p.m. EST. Can't wait that long? Check out the behind-the-scenes video of Pete from the Degrassi set.

Will you watch the Degrassi movie? Who's your fave Degrassi character? What do you think of Pete Wentz being in the flick?

Katy Perry celebrates a one year anniversary!

katy_blog.jpg

Hey J-14ers!

Here at J-14, we're way into music, from your faves like the Jonas Brothers and Miley Cyrus to newer bands and artists like Hey Monday and Kate Voegele. I happen to me a huge music fan myself - I'm constantly posting my fave song lyrics on Twitter or telling everyone about a show I just checked out.

That's why I was psyched when I realized that this month is the one year anniversary of Katy Perry's debut album, One Of The Boys. I have to admit, I got into Katy a bit after everyone else -- it was her second radio hit, "Hot N Cold," that made me give her whole record a try, not "I Kissed A Girl," the tune everyone obvi always talks about! But after seeing her live at Z100's Jingle Ball 2008 (in a cute Santa costume, natch), her CD has barely left my stereo, you can find me screaming "Fingerprints" out my window practically every day, and when her fourth single, "Waking Up In Vegas," comes on the radio, I turn the volume way too high for anyone's good (those poor fellow drivers on the highway). "Fingerprints" (featured in commercials for ABC Family's Sophie and the last track on One Of The Boys) has become my empowering anthem -- I feel like I can do almost anything after I listen to that track!

pink_blog.jpg

There are so many awesome female singers out there who not only have discs that "have legs" as they say in the industry (AKA they're still churning out hit singles way after their CD initially debuts) -- just like Pink, one of my all time faves! Her tunes are always on the radio, and the lyrics are super real and relatable, especially those breakup tracks off her latest disc, Funhouse ("So What," anyone?).

So I want to hear from you guys -- which CDs are you still listening to way after they came out? Are there any strong female singers you're constantly quoting? And are there any new bands you're really into right now?

We'd love to know, so fill J-14 in!

<3,
Emily

Q&A with Cassadee Pope of Hey Monday

heymonday.jpg

Hey Monday's female powerhouse singer, Cassadee Pope, is fresh out of the water of West Palm Beach, FL! She's been compared to Avril Lavigne and Paramore's Hayley Williams. J-14 spoke exclusively with the spunky singer about being "one of the guys," hanging out with cute musicians and more!

J-14: What's it like being the only girl in Hey Monday?
Cassadee: They treat me like a guy, but they also know what's disrespectful. They let me have my own bed and stuff like that, and they give me enough time in the bathroom in the morning to get ready. For the most part I'm just treated like another one of the guys.

J-14: What's your favorite track off your album Hold On Tight?
Cassadee: "Should've Tried Harder." I like the message it has. Giving a relationship your all and then it ending and the person wants to come back, but why should I take you back when I was the one who was giving and you would just take? There was no give from you, so you should have tried harder when we were together. I like that.

J-14: Who writes the songs?
Cassadee: Me and my guitar player, Mike. Mike writes the music and then brings it to me, and I'd put my lyrics and melodies to them. "Should've Tried Harder" and "Six Months" were the only songs on the record that I wrote completely by myself.

J-14: What's it like being compared to Avril Lavigne and Paramore?
Cassadee: I honestly think that it's a huge compliment. Someone said that they think Columbia found their new Avril Lavigne, and that choked me up because she's a huge inspiration to me. Paramore is a compliment because we like them a lot as a band. But there's a lot of people who just take that and fabricate on it and say that we're trying to copy them. That's not the case at all because we're a lot more pop and mainstream than them.

J-14: You're on Pete Wentz's label Decaydance with bands like The Academy Is... What's it like hanging out with William Beckett of The Academy Is...?
Cassadee: It's fun. William for me is like more of an inspiration then a crush. I think he's amazing and he's like a really cute guy -- tall and handsome. He's a huge inspiration and he's turned into one of my idols. On stage he demands everybody's attention, and he gets their attention. He pulls everybody in. I look up to him a lot.

J-14: You also had a small role on Degrassi. Do you like the acting thing or is mainly music for you?
Cassadee: My first priority and my real passion is music, but I love doing stuff like that.

J-14: Do you have any advice for girls who want to form their own band?
Cassadee: I've met so many girls who've said that I've inspired them on tour and that's awesome, but I always tell them: Don't give up, and if you don't have a band already, definitely start looking for one because you need to start as soon as possible. You really just want to have that solid foundation, like a friend in a band with you. Make sure that you get along with them. Don't be afraid of rejection and don't quit after rejection.
