J-14 Hot Band Alert: Forever the Sickest Kids

ForeverTheSickestKidsByLisa.jpg

J-14 is scouting out the hottest bands around... and this week's pick is Forever the Sickest Kids!

Here are five things you need to know about Forever the Sickest Kids, whose album, The Weekend: Friday, hits stores tomorrow!

1- The band got their start when five days after they officially formed, lead singer Jonathan Cook accidentally clicked his mouse on a button that cost them $350 to get front-page placement on Pure Volume. Problem? They didn't have a song! So in two days they came up with "Hey Brittany."

2- They're currently on their first American headlining tour through December 5 with The Rocket Summer, My Favorite Highway, and Sing It Loud.

3- This new album is the first of a three-part album series called The Weekend -- this one is Friday and Saturday and Sunday will each come out about a year and a half later.

4- The band is ALL about their fans! Jonathan recently tweeted from the road, "Just played catch w/ Nerf footballs w/ fans in Line at Boston HOB felt like I was on the Dallas Cowboys, now watching the game." And when they were in Paris, they even went sight-seeing with fans. "We walked out from a venue and asked the fans if they knew how to get to the Eiffel Tower and they're like, 'It's 30 minutes from here -- you want us to just go with you?' and we took basically 20 fans from the line and we just all hopped on the subway and went across town to the Eiffel Tower," Jonathan says. "It was really fun!"

5- The Texas band became fast friends with Selena Gomez when she missed their show and visited them in the studio. "One thing that I didn't know is how good of a singer she is," Jonathan tells J-14. "I told her, 'I can count the number of times that I've actually sat down and put in my iTunes gift card and bought a song this year and I just sat down and bought all of the Selena Gomez songs on iTunes.' I'm such a fan of her voice. She's such a good singer!"

But enough from us... let's let the band tell you about their new album in their own words:

J-14 Hot Band Alert: The Higher

J-14 is scouting out the hottest bands around... and this week's pick is The Higher!

Here are five things you need to know about The Higher, whose album, It's Only Natural, is out now!

1- The band used to be called September Star and the title of their album, It's Only Natural is taken from The Kinks' song, "Come Dancing."

2- They're currently touring with Quietdrive through November 16.

3- The album has something for everyone! "We wrote the best songs that The Higher has ever written on this record. No matter what kind of music you listen to, you're going to find at least two songs that are your favorite," lead singer Seth Trotter says. "We have two songs the girls are going to love, two rock songs the guys who loved our old sound want, two R&B songs for those who liked our stuff like 'Insurance," two slow jams that people have been begging us to do for a long time, and two straight-up pop songs. It's like Noah's Ark on this record -- there's two of everything!"

4- The Higher has a cover of Ne-Yo's "Closer" as a bonus track! "People who like rock may never listen to Ne-Yo, but the song is so undeniable that they might give our version a chance. Plus we like to mess around with covers and mix them up," Trotter says.

5- The band is OBSESSED with the iPhone game "Words With Friends" and invite fans to challenge them! Their user names are: Duugfresh, HigherBoo, and TheHigherface. And if you beat them and prove it's you to them at a show, they'll give you a special gift! :)

Here are five things you need to know about Say Anything, whose self-titled album comes out tomorrow!

4- This album is not as dark as their past ones. Lead singer Max Bemis says, "The songs on this record were inspired by an amazing adventure I had actually becoming a worthwhile person again. I had to let go of my self-loathing and general sense of self-imposed alienation, which led me through a journey of self-discovery, at the end of which I fell in love!"

5- Max recently Tweeted, "Seeing where the wild things are, the story of a young man named Max who was taught how to party by hairy dudes. Sounds like early SA to me."

Here are five things you need to know about Cartel, whose album, Cycles, just came out last week!

1- The guys met while attending elementary school together in Conyers, GA, and have been a band since 2000.

2- They're currently on a tour with This Providence and J-14 Hot Band Alert pick a few weeks back, The Summer Set.

4- You may remember the band best from MTV's reality show, Band in a Bubble, when the guy lived in an actual "bubble" on New York City's Hudson River and had 23 webcams filming their every move while recording their last album, the self-titled, Cartel, in 2007.

5- When the band tweeted an unofficial "peanut butter or jelly" poll in August, the results were clear. "Peanut butter wins. Notables: apple butter and peanut jelly. Well done," they Twittered.

2- You can see Days Difference playing a band with Steve Rushton in three different scenes in the movie.

3- They got to see Hannah Montana's blonde wig up close. "It was epic," Jeremy tells J-14. Micah says they even yanked the wig off during filming! Jeremiah says, "It was really funny because she was actually talking about how much it itches and she couldn't wait to get out of it 'cause it was driving her crazy. She's like, 'I hate this thing!' It was funny."

4- They guys are even pals with Billy Ray Cyrus. "Billy Ray was one of the nicest guys we all have met," Jeremy tells J-14. "He just walked up to us you know like, "Hey. My name's Billy Ray. You guys ever need anything, just ask me.' He was so cool!"And he got to see Miley and Billy Ray's relationship first hand. "You can really tell that she loves her father. They have a great relationship. It's really sweet to see that!"

5- Micah's favorite episode of Hannah Montana is the "cheese jerky one!" And Jonathan agrees!
