Review: Nick Jonas & The Administration's Debut Album, Who I Am

NickJonasAndTheAdministration.jpg

Hey J-14ers!

It's here! The much anticipated album by youngest Jonas Brother, Nick Jonas, Who I Am, hits shelves today and proves that this Jonas is all grown up as he makes his solo debut in the spotlight.

Nick stunned JoBro fans all over the world when he announced he was breaking away from his brothers to work on a solo project, Nick Jonas & the Administration, back in October last year. His first single, "Who I Am", wasted no time in heating up the charts and after I listened to the album, I have no doubt that the album will be a success.

Here's my review track-by-track!
1. "Rose Garden" -- Inspired by a true story, I love how this opening track tells a story with catchy lyrics.
2. "Who I Am" -- Nick dished exclusive to J-14 that this track is not only about trying to find the right girl, but also about finding himself! This single is a great set up for what the album is like and definitely a stand out!
3. "Olive & An Arrow" -- This song is different then most on the album with jazz and blues undertones that suit his voice well!
4. "Conspiracy Theory" -- Lenny Kravitz-influenced, this track has a classic rock feel with awesome guitar riffs! A lot of fun and definitely a favorite!
5. "In The End" -- Though the sound feels dated, it showcases his vocals brilliantly.
6. "Last Time Around" -- This is my favorite track on the album with it's catchy chorus and funky beat!
7. "Tonight" -- A nice spin on the Jonas Brothers' tune from A Little Bit Longer.
8. "Stage of Emergency" -- This song has a quirky sound to it that reminds me of the Jonas Brothers' sound with an edge!
9. "Vesper's Goodbye" -- Another favorite of mine, haunting and heartfelt lyrics that you can hear him spilling his heart and soul in to. Love this!
10. "Strong (Back on the Ground)" -- A feel good song and perfect closing track to an overall great album.

Never the biggest Jonas Brother fan myself, I will admit that I am pleasantly surprised with this New Jersey native's album. This 17-year-old is a definite triple threat between his soothing voice, musical abilities, and oh yeah, he wrote all of his songs, which is impressive enough for me! I can't wait to see what else this talented cutie has in store for the future!

Who I Am is out today!

Your J-14 Intern,
Nicole

SelenaGomezNickJonas.jpg

Sources close to J-14 spied Selena Gomez at her ex-BF's Nick Jonas' concert in Detroit this past Saturday. Sources also confirm to J-14 that Selena was crying while Nick was singing his new song "Stay," which is rumored to be about her.

This isn't the first time the actress was at one of his shows -- she was also spotted at Nick Jonas & The Administration's very first concert in Dallas on January 3.

Hmmm -- do you think a Nelena reconciliation is in the works? Do you think Nick and Selena should start dating again?

Is Selena torn between Justin and Nick?

JustinBieberNickJonas.jpg

The new year is already off to a boy-filled start for Selena Gomez! First, she was serenaded by Justin Bieber on New Year's Eve (See pic below -- he sang "One Less Lonely Girl" to her!), and then just two days later, she was seen in the VIP section of Nick Jonas & The Administration's first concert at the House of Blues in Dallas.

SelenaGomezJustinBieberOneLessLonelyGirl.jpg

Now we all know that Selena thinks Justin is "cute," as J-14 first reported -- but it looks like Selena and Nick are friends again! Remember, the two went through a really bad break up almost a year ago and barely even talked! Selena told J-14 that going through heartbreak was the "worst feeling in the world."

Could Nick and Selena be rekindling their fling? But what about Selena and Justin? They had a lot of chemistry on stage! Which guy should Selena date?

Are the Jonas Brothers Breaking Up?

JonasBrothersDisneyChristmasParade.jpg
J-14ers asked the question when news of Nick Jonas' solo career broke, and now that Kevin is a married man, many Jonas Brothers fans are still wondering: is this it for the Jonas Brothers?

While sources say that Nick is ready to be the next Justin Timberlake and leave his fam band to focus on Nick Jonas & The Administration, J-14 reported back in October that the Jonas Brothers told fans they have no plans to break up. "We are ALL excited about this project AND what we are doing TOGETHER," the JoBros announced. J-14 got the scoop straight from Nick when we previewed his new album. "People were questioning whether or not it was the end to the Jonas Brothers," Nick told J-14. "but the ironic part was that we were playing a show that night!"

2010 is definitely going to be an interesting -- and different! -- year for the Jonas Brothers, individually and as a band. Check out the February Issue of J-14 magazine (on newsstands January 11!) for more of our exclusive interview with Nick Jonas. What do you think will happen with the Jonas Brothers in 2010? If the brothers stopped being a band, what do you think each would do?

Update: The Jonas Brothers Speak Out on Nick's Solo Album

NickJonasSoloFREE.jpg

J-14 was one of the first to report that Nick Jonas is releasing a solo album under his new band Nick Jonas and The Administration. Instantly there were rumors that this was a sign that the Jonas Brothers were breaking up.

But Nick, Joe, and Kevin took to their MySpace to set the record straight:

WE ARE NOT BREAKING UP
Hey everyone!

#1 - The Jonas Brothers are NOT breaking up!

#2 - Nick Jonas IS working on a side project called

Nick Jonas & The Administration

#3 - This project will be released early in 2010

#4 - We are ALL excited about this project AND what we are doing TOGETHER!

#5 - We plan to make music together for as long as we can.

To our dearest fans,

A news story hit the internet today concerning Nick Jonas & The Administration. We are so excited to share it with you...OUR FANS.

From Nick:

About 6 months ago, the three of us had a 2 week break from touring, and we all decided to go and do something that was on our hearts. Joe went on a trip to Australia and New Zealand. Kevin spent some time with his fiancé Danielle. I decided to go to Nashville, TN to make a side project (Nick Jonas & The Administration) with 4 musicians - guys that I had met and worked with before. If I was to describe the sound to someone... I would say its "heart & soul", because the music that I make is from my heart, and the lyrics I write are from my soul.

We've said from the beginning of our career as the Jonas Brothers that anything we do outside of the group is a side project because you can't break up brothers. My brothers are my biggest supporters, and were on the phone with me every day while I was in the studio asking how it was going, and telling me they couldn't wait to hear the record.

My brothers and I couldn't be more excited to have these amazing opportunities as a group, and as individuals. We are already planning another world tour AS THE JONAS BROTHERS next summer, and it is all thanks to our amazing fans.

I am so excited to share more details about my project with all of you as we come closer to the end of the year, but for right now, Kevin, Joe and I have a show to play in Venezuela!

From Joe and Kevin:

We are so proud of our brother Nick. We know that we will be doing music together for the rest of our lives. But we are thrilled for you to hear these songs that were on his heart. They are amazing works of art from an amazing talent...our brother. We will see you later this year, next year, and hopefully for the rest of our lives.

"A three chord strand is not easily broken", and one thing's for sure... this three chord strand is stronger now than it's ever been.

You are truly the best fans in the world, and we love you with all our hearts.

JB
Kevin, Joe and Nick

So there you have it -- straight from JB's mouths!

Are you looking forward to Nick's new album? Or do you like him better when he's with his brothers?

After a lot of rumors and speculation, Mrs. Jonas just confirmed that yes, Nick is working on a solo project! "Nick is working on a solo act -- it's called Nick Jonas and The Administration. Shhh! He's at the photo shoot for the album cover right now," Mama J says.

Hmm -- sounds like "The Administration" was inspired by Nick's nickname "Mr. President," don'tcha think?! ;-)
