J-14 hangs with Cobra Starship in NYC

cobraj14.jpg

Hey J-14ers,

New York City is pretty busy right about now, thanks to all the New York Fashion Week happenings going on around town, and this Jersey girl got to see it all first-hand! I hung out at the Caravan event during last evening's Fashion's Night Out extravaganza that took place at stores across NYC.

Cobra Starship's Gabe Saporta co-hosted the event, along with All-American Reject's Tyson Ritter, and Gabe even took over the DJ booth for an hour! He told me he didn't think he was a great DJ, but I thought he did a great job! We heard some sweet tunes from the Ting Tings and Cobra (of course!) throughout the night, and who can complain about that? Gabe and I got to catch up again (remember, he was just in the J-14 offices a few weeks ago!) -- turns out Gabe and I went to high school in the same town! I'm always psyched to see Gabe though -- not only do I love their hit single, "Good Girls Go Bad," Gabe's a super nice guy and he used to be the lead singer of one of my fave bands from back in the day, Midtown.

But the night didn't end there! I also saw Greek's Spencer Grammer and Sonny With A Chance's Tiffany Thornton! And at the end of the night, I ran into one of my fave singers, One Tree Hill's Kate Voegele, who was wearing the cutest red dress with a little bubble hem. I last saw her play at Highline Ballroom back in May, and she told me she was just in town for Fashion Week, but she'll be back in NYC this fall on another tour.

It was a night full of fun, sweet music and fashion, and awesome tour news. Plus, I got a sweet prize signed just by Gabe for a lucky winner -- but you'll have to wait for an upcoming issue to get the deets on that! ;)

What do you think of Cobra Starship and lead singer Gabe? Are you into "Good Girls Go Bad?" And what fashions are you psyched for this fall?

<3,
Emily, J-14 editor

Greek's Amber answers your fashion questions: Week 8!

AmberStevensWeek8.jpg

J-14's loved having Greek's Amber Stevens as our very own celeb fashionista this summer! Check out her answer to J-14 reader Nava Melody's major scarf dilemma below, then let us know what you've thought about all of Amber's fun style tips!

I got a super cute dark pink scarf with black peace signs on it for Christmas last year. What colors on a shirt or tank would match a scarf like that?

- Nava Melody, Yekita, OK

Hi Nava Melody!

Black and pink are pretty bold colors! Try to match it with different shades of pink, grey, or silver. Be sure the scarf is your boldest piece you have on!

<3,
Amber

What do you think of Amber's advice? What do you like to match your scarves with? What's your fave scarf look like?

Exclusive Q&A with Greek's Scott Michael Foster!

ScottMichaelFoster.jpg

Scott Michael Foster plays the always scheming Cappie on ABC Family's Greek, the Kappa Tau president known for his many majors and tons of hilarious plans -- plus he's quite the girl magnet! J-14 talked to Scott about the upcoming season of Greek will be like, his old co-star Jesse McCartney, and what he really thinks about his castmates! Look for even more of Scott when Season 3 of Greek premieres on Monday, August 31, on ABC Family!

J-14: What can we expect in Season 3 of Greek?
Scott Michael Foster:
Without giving too much away, we left off [season 2] with the end of the world party, and so it's the whole Cappie and Casey thing -- what's gonna happen there. Cappie was on top of the roof wondering what he should do. We literally pick up right where we left off, and it's the next day. There's things that you have to do to figure out what you want, and so that sort of starts off the whole season. It's definitely going to be a lot of fun, and we're touching on some new stuff. We're going to expand on Cappie being in a secret society and his relationship with Casey, so you'll see a lot more of that. You'll find out about Dale -- he has to struggle with his religion for awhile, like some college students do. That's actually a really cool story line.

J-14: Do you still keep in touch with Jesse McCartney, who guest-starred on Greek last season?
Scott:
We were hanging out shortly after he got done with his stint. I went to go see a couple of this shows, and we went and played pool with some other castmates. It was a lot of fun, but I know he's busy right now, so I haven't actually talked to him in awhile!

>J-14: What is your favorite behind-the-scenes memory from the show?
Scott:
There's so many, it's hard to just pick! It's like going to college without the schoolwork, so you can imagine what that's like. It's so funny to go back when they make little blooper reels of the season and behind the scenes stuff. Those scenes they show in the DVD, that's exactly what it's like. It's a lot of fun. I can't even think of one thing.

J-14: Have you gotten into Twitter?
Scott:
I have actually never been on Twitter. It's just like public IM site, right? I've heard it's the next big thing. There's like eight Scott Michael Foster Facebook pages, and I don't know how they do it, but a lot of people think so many of those sites are me. I'm like "Nope, that's not me!' Some are fans, and then some are actually impersonating me. It's weird to look on and see that other people are pretending to be you!

Let's play word association with your castmates. Jacob Zachar.
Scott:
Gangster.
J-14: Spencer Grammer.
Scott: Sweetheart.
J-14: Paul James.
Scott: Pranskter.
J-14: Jake McDorman.
Scott: It's not one word, but pool hustler who always beats me!
J-14: Amber Stevens.
Scott: Singing.
J-14: Clark Duke.
Scott: Comedian.
J-14: Dilshad Vadsaria.
Scott: Rebecca because that's her character's name. She's really not [like her character]. She's actually very smart, mature, and well put-together.

Greek's Amber answers your fashion questions: Week 3!

spencer_lc_amber.jpg

J-14 loves the fact that Greek's Amber Stevens is answering all of your fashion questions. She's got some sweet style helpers to back up her tips, like Greek's stylist, Mandy -- she puts outfits together for Amber's character, Ashleigh. "She's really funny and cool and most of the time, my costume for the scene is something Mandy is wearing to work that day!" Amber tells J-14. "She'll coordinate and say, 'Oh I own that, I'll wear that the same day to work so we're matching.' So I basically wear everything she wears." Amber also got to meet fashionista Lauren Conrad from The Hills when LC guest starred alongside Amber and Spencer Grammer in the season two finale.

Since Amber's got so many fashionable people in her life -- and she's quite stylish herself --- Amber was able to give Amanda great advice on changing up her style. Check out her tips below, and look for her next fashion q & a next Friday!

I have the problem of always wearing the same style, but when I try to change it up a little bit, it just makes me feel uncomfortable. I like the preppy style I have, but people always tell me to change it. In some ways, I can't! What do I do?

- Amanda, FL

Hey Amanda -

Stick with the style you love! It can be hard to go outside of your comfort zone, so start small and try new accessories. Add some hair ornaments or wear long necklaces and hoop earrings. Changing the colors of your clothes could help, too, but be sure to tell your friends to buy you new clothes if they want to see you in something else so badly!

<3,
Amber

What do you think of Amber's advice? What do you do when you're stuck in a fashion rut? Have you ever tried to change up a preppy style? Do you follow just one fashion trend?

Q&A with Spencer Grammer

spencer.jpg

J-14 hung out with Greek star Spencer Grammer in New York City where she spilled about the show's guest stars (including Jesse McCartney and Lauren Conrad!), mean girls, and Rob Pattinson!

J-14: Last season ended with your character Casey dreaming about Lauren Conrad from The Hills -- what was it like having her on the show?
Spencer: She did such a great job and learned her lines really well. She was like, "I'm kind of nervous about learning the lines." But she did great! She should totally be an actress -- she was awesome! I've seen her a few times out and she's always so gracious and wonderful -- and gives big hugs! She's not in this current season, but we're shooting another 20 episodes, so L.C. might be back!

J-14: And Jesse McCartney is on the show now -- what's he been like?
Spencer: He's a big star. His music is huge! He wrote "Bleeding Love." Isn't that crazy? He's just unbelievably talented to be able to do all of the things that he does. On set, he was super cool and chill. I didn't have any scenes with him unfortunately because he's in the boys' storyline. He plays a rushee that all of the fraternities are trying to recruit.

J-14: Did you ever have to deal with mean girls in school, the same way Casey has to deal with in the sorority?
Spencer: Of course I did. Girls would always say mean things about me and call me different names because I've always been a tomboy -- I'd play football with the boys during lunch and girls don't like that at all! But I was always active like I've always been like that. I surf and snowboard -- that's just who I am. You just pretend they don't say anything mean about you. Words can never hurt me! So you just let it roll off. People who talk meanly about you are bored. Why waste your time?

J-14: Greek took the timeslot back of The Secret Life of the American Teenager. Do the casts hang out?
Spencer: I've been at the same party as the cast, but haven't officially introduced myself and they haven't really introduced themselves to me. You know where you do that dance? But we should have a big party together. I think they shoot on the same lot as us but we never like get out of the basement. We literally shoot in this basement that used to be a parking garage -- and we're stuck in this basement like the world doesn't exist outside of there. It's like dark and there aren't any windows. That's where we live for like six months a year!

J-14: Finally, random question: Twilight or Harry Potter?
Spencer: I'm a Harry Potter fan -- books and movie. [Rob Pattinson] was cute in them but then his character died. It was sad. But he looks unreal because he's so attractive. He's almost not human -- he's so beautiful! He was so well cast as Cedric Diggory and now Twilight -- everyone's obsessed with him! I haven't read all the Twilight books -- I sort of read the first book. I love Kristen Stewart -- she's great. I always thought she was a really talented actress. I saw her in an indie film before Into The Wild. I'm watching it and I'm like, "Oh, she's going to be a big star -- who is she?" And now here she is -- she's in Twilight!

J-14 Exclusive Greek's Spencer Grammer Message To You!

J-14 spent the afternoon yesterday with Greek star, Spencer Grammer. And she gave us the scoop on the new episodes that kick off on Monday, March 30 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC Family. Plus she gave us the good news that the show has been picked up for an additional 20 episodes after these, so there's tons more Greek to come! Yay!

When we last left off, Spencer's character Casey was having a dream that Lauren Conrad showed up in to give her advice about her long-distance relationship! (Spencer says Lauren was so nervous about having lines for the show, but was a natural!). And then the very end of the episode ended on major frenemy drama with Frannie breaking up Casey's ZBZ sorority by starting her own. Yikes!

So needless to say, the new episodes are packed with more drama, as everyone returns to school at Cyrus Rhodes after summer vacation. Calvin comes back with an old high school pal, Andy, played by none other than Jesse McCartney! Spencer says Jesse was so cool on the set and the episodes are packed with fun and drama!

Stay tuned for more from our interview with Spencer. In the meantime, check out this video message from her, just for you J-14 readers!
