The song is featured on the band's upcoming album Love Like This -- it hits shelves Oct. 13!

Q&A with new soul singer Mateo!

Hey girls!

Up-and-coming artist Mateo stopped by the TWIST offices to say hello last week! We talked to this cutie crooner about his rise to fame, his music and his band geek days.

TWIST: Hey Mateo! We hear you originally worked in finance. How did you end up as a musician?
Mateo: After I graduated college I got a job as a consultant in New York. I worked in consulting very briefly because I told myself when I got there, "This is not for me." I had always been fighting a dream of whether I should go into music or not, and one day I just decided I don't want to be here for 20 years and have all these doubts. Now I'm signed to MySpace Records.

TWIST: Was that choice hard for you?
M: Yeah it was difficult but it wasn't really as hard as I thought it was going to be. When I knew I wanted to do music, I was all for it and I have no regrets about it at all.

TWIST: What's your advice for TWIST girls who want to become singers?
M: First thing is just master whatever you're doing, master the craft, practice like crazy. Just devote yourself to really getting to know the business. I think it's really cool now that the Internet is taking over and you can record something and put it out there, try to market it and try to add people as friends and try to get responses to it. That's the first way to do it. Honestly, it's all about the work ethic behind it. Everyone has dreams you just have to work really hard. Don't let anyone tell you that you can't do it. You have to actually believe it and go for it. If I would have stopped at the first couple of songs when someone said, "Oh that's not really a good song," I wouldn't have gotten to the point where I am now. So you just gotta keep going. It's all about the persistence.

TWIST: How would you describe your music?
M: It's piano-based. It's about love. It's a mixture of Coldplay and actually some of the Honor Society stuff, it has some of that '80s vibe to it, which is really kind of cool. And then some soul music -- Alicia Keys or something like that. I write all my own songs. I think that's what artists are, they observe the world and reinterpret what they see in music. Whatever I see, I write about.

TWIST: So what's your favorite high school memory?
M: I miss the marching band. I miss going to the football games and playing, just being there and kicking it with my friends. I loved those moments, but I wasn't a fan of the uniforms.

TWIST: Were they embarrassing?
M: Very geeky. They had ruffles, and mine of course did not fit right, it was too short in the arms. The colors weren't bad, it was blue and white, but the ruffles were kind of embarrassing!

Tell TWIST: What do you think of Mateo? Next big thing? Comment now!

Q&A with new boy band WOW!

wow w jyll.jpg
Hey TWIST girls!

Today, I was lucky enough to sit down and chat with WOW! Haven't heard of these guys? No worries, TWIST has the scoop from their most embarrassing moments on tour to the names of their pets! After spending time with the boys of WOW, I'm officially in love - and I'm sure you will be too!

TWIST: So why a '90s-style pop boy band?
Frankie: Basically, we're trying not to do what everyone's doing now. I think most people are doing R&B and techno and that kind of thing, which is really cool, but what we're trying to do is just real, bubble gum pop. We're trying to bring it back to 'N Sync and Britney Spears and the Backstreet Boys just because we feel like it's time. It hasn't been done in so long.

TWIST: And tell us about your charity work, I know that's something important to all of you.
Frankie: That's our big thing. Most teens think that just 'cause they're a teenager they're not gonna make a difference. But any little thing, even if it's the smallest thing, can make a difference.

Mike: So certain stops that we do, we'll try to visit a charity or children's hospital and just try to help.

TWIST: What are some embarrassing moments that have happened on tour?
Eddie: Oh, we were doing our intro for our show, and there was an opening in the center of the curtain on the stage, so that's where we were coming out of instead of the sides. I turn around and Mike has his feet hung up in the curtain, like he's falling!

Mike: I was wearing Converse and I think they were like a half a size too big, so when I came out, I was staring at Jake being like, "Ok, let's go" and they got caught!

Frankie: The funny thing is that same exact show I -

Mike: Oh you ripped your pants!

Frankie: Sometimes I get a little bit carried away and I just decided to slide down to the floor. I came up and my whole entire pant leg was totally ripped, my knee was bleeding. I'm like, "Oh I hope no one sees this!"

Jake: One time in LA we were like so close together he punched me in the mouth and I was bleeding.

TWIST: Yikes! Okay last question: What do your fans not know about you?
Mike: I want to just write music all the time. I like when you see the Jonas Brothers write their own songs. You put thoughts and ideas on paper and it grows and then when you play it live for the fans, it's gotta be such a cool feeling!

Frankie: One thing fans don't know about me is I have one of the craziest families you've ever met. My mom...

Eddie: Deserves a reality show.

Frankie: My mom is emotional. And my sister is...

Eddie: Crazy! My sister looks exactly like LC from The Hills. Identical. And Jake contemplated having a pet skunk called Jimmy Pete. He has crazy animals and all of them have legit names.

Jake: I used to have a fish named Hootie Mongolian, and then I had a hamster named Charlie Dickson. We were going to get a baby skunk, you can keep them as pets, but we didn't. Some of the fans heard about the skunk ordeal and they got me stuffed animal skunks!

Eddie: Oh, if we lit the stage on fire and just stood there, Frankie would be happy. You wouldn't even have to do anything as long as there's fire everywhere.

Frankie: I just have a vision of me coming down from the bottom of the stage and rising with a huge thing of fireworks streaming down. Once that happens, we're gonna be at Madison Square Garden.

TWIST: We want backstage passes to see that.
Frankie: Of course!

The guys also promised me a lego belt just like theirs! Totally cool, right? Tell TWIST: Do you think WOW's the next big thing? Do you want to read more about them? Comment now!
